TotalCast
DTV Plus created TotalCast as a complete datacast solution including server software for content preparation and client software for receiving and displaying datacast content.
MCP/VODE
In order to deliver content to viewers, that content must be organized and processed. DTV Plus developed the back-end infrastructure specifically for that task. The Modular Content Producer (MCP) is the workhorse of this system. It allows the broadcaster to create, manage and schedule content processing tasks such as spidering a Web site, retrieving content via FTP from a third party or even a manual task to pick up data from the local hard drive. The VODE, or Video On Demand Engine, is responsible for encoding "on-demand" video clips for distribution through the digital broadcast. The video is encoded in the Windows Media format and the resulting files can be flagged for editing before being inserted into the digital signal.
Receiver/Viewer
TotalCast consists of two pieces of software working in conjunction with one another for receiving software on client PCs. The receiver software resides in the Windows system tray and runs in the background to pull data from the digital signal of the specified channel. The receiver stores and updates the content in a user defined area on the PC hard disk. The viewer software gives the user access to all the content that has been extracted from the digital signal. TotalCast is packed with features including automatic updating of new content channels, active cache management for managing content and disk space, and changeable color schemes for the viewer.
TotalCast currently requires Windows Me, 2000 or XP and requires an approved DTV tuning device such as the accessDTV digital media receiver, or the B2C2 USB receiver or PCI card.
